[Babel] About alternative B?

About this issue, I'm curious, Diego, do you know how the GNU GetText
stuff handles it? I read their documentation, and AFAICT they only deal
with that for menus. Seems to me that this is a case that view
translation doesn't deal with, and the solution for pure model
translation is pretty awkward. Might be an argument to use Andreas'
voodoo - I can imagine a version of it that allows a translator to 
distinguish between cases of the same string according to what method 
they appear in or something like that.
