Somewhere halfway in between. There are some various intricate C files
involved in letting Zope do its magic, which I do interpret as language
extensions because they deeply interfere with how properties of classes
are looked up ('properties' as a term for attributes+methods, there
isn't much difference in Zope). Google for 'python extension classes' 
for details.
