Zero-width characters in 3.7 (and maybe earlier)

I think it mostly just went unnoticed, but I agree that it's a good 
thing for the undefined glyphs to have at least some width.  It makes it 
easier to notice when linefeeds are there which shouldn't be, etc.  I 
don't recall anyone arguing that they should have a width of zero.

So if you wanted to create an enhancement do-it which converts the 
existing fonts in the image, we could probably incorporate that.
