Let me clarify. First, GOODS server can be run outside of Squeak. It is just an executable file. I'm sure you can download and build GOODS from http://www.garret.ru/~knizhnik/goods.html. Then just run the goodsrv program outside of Squeak. GOODS client is still necessary in Squeak to access the server.

The GoodsServer package for Squeak was written because I was tired of doing just what I stated, e.g. starting goodsrv outside of Squeak. I just wanted to launch it from my program in Squeak. I wrote it with only Windows in mind, but in the latest edition on SqueakMap, I included a contribution from Marco Paga <marco at marco-paga.de> that provides a Linux compatible version. I don't have Linux so I cannot tell you if it works or how to troubleshoot errors on that side of the equation. I should update the SqueakMap documentation to reflect this....

Regards,

John
