You are absolutely right. If you are running an application just for itself.

However, a software running on MS (or MacOS or whatever) needs to integrate
into the OS to a certain extend, due to a simple reason: Cut, Copy & Paste
operations between apps, importing/exporting, frequently switching between
apps, etc. That's all stuff which benefits from a common, shared Look &
Feel. Your app is not alone. It's just one part of a suite of applications
that tightly work together.
