I haven't used Smalltalk/X for a while, but I remember really liking 
its formatter, which is configurable much as Dan describes.  I also 
like the way it formats as you type, rather than only when you accept 
the method.

Presumably we can't actually use the code, but it might be a useful 
source of inspiration.
