I just want to say "Thanks!" to Craig Latta for pointing me to the class
MidiPrimTester.
This class has a number of examples and tests that help in figuring out if
MIDI is working and what ports it works on.

The methods each have a nice example comment that uses port 0 by default.

I found I needed to use port 1 to play notes out to my keyboard and port 3
to get note information in from my keyboard.
