which 3.9alpha? The problem is that with the "quick 3.8 release" taking
half a year, we have a 3.9alpha that is actually older then 3.8. (It was
then decided to discontinue this 3.9 branch and build  a new one on top
of 3.8).

I am quite sure that yoshiki's change (dating from 1/7/2005) is *not*  
in the
old 3.9alpha. Which would explain the numbers ;-)

So for now, it might be a good idea to not use the old 3.9alpha.

On what will soon be 3.9alpha (the new one), I get (Powerbook, 1.5 Ghz):

11111.8     without primitive
10072.0     with primitive
