If you can compile your own sources from the CVS head then your platform
is already better supported than the one I'm using.
I am completely indifferent towards FreeBSD support.
I won't ever deliberately break it.
However, if the platform I use doesn't work as well as I need it to, I
get upset.
The only configuration at issue here is a rather obscure case where
Squeak is required to run without any X-server (or any other windowing
system).
The change I had proposed, and which was rejected by Ian almost
certainly wouldn't have broken your configuration.
