Based on your response, I decided to download the latest 3.8 version  
from squeak.org for Mac OSX. The version I had tried it on was the  
"latest" posted 3.8 version as of July 3rd, which presented the  
problem I described. However, with the 3.8 version I downloaded  
today, it works just fine.
