FWIW, I use the Unix VM, and I find that for non-ASCII text,
copy-and-paste works but keyboard input generates garbage.  Displaying
text on the screen, on the other hand, works fine.

I have not specifically tried Cyrillic, and I have not followed the
entire previous thread.
