Ok, that would explain it. I don't recall clicking 'select upgrades' but most likely then somehow it got done, perhaps since VMMaker showed up right at the bottom of the middle pane near the button.
Now trying again, in a fresh sq3.10-7159dev08.02.1 when I very carefully only do the following:
- Open Universe Browser (enhanced),
- then do 'update list from network' (I see the progress indicator),
- then select VMMaker 3.8b6.1, (some descriptive text shows up)
- then 'install selection', nothing happens at all.
