beware GNU Smalltalk if you want to contribute to squeak

Doesn't it look unfair and over exagerated?
In Squeak we can find patterns inspired from Visual Works (for example
the Observer pattern). The problem from there look much serious.
Does it mean Squeak developper should stop using VW as well?
