Unix vm on Mac OSX 10.5 uses X11

I just discovered on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard that the unix vm
(3.9-8/3.9-10) uses leopards  X11
support rather than the quartz interface. When I start up using -quartz
I get the following message.

2008-01-27 17:32:47.342 unixsqueak[6057:10b] Warning once: This
application, or a library it uses, is using NSQuickDrawView, which has
been deprecated. Apps should cease use of QuickDraw and move to Quartz.
