I tried to reproduce this crash in Cog but couldn't.  You might test too
using cogwin.zip<http://www.mirandabanda.org/files/Cog/VM/VM.r2219/cogwin.zip>.
 If it doesn't crash then it's either a difference between the standard
platforms JPEG plugin files and the Cog platforms JPEG plugin files
(unlikely) or a difference between gcc 2.95 (standard VM) & gcc 3.4.4 (Cog).
