[squeak-dev] request on Workspace contents to/from file

Hi Timothy,

that ".text" extension stems from some old code and how workspaces in a VMMaker image are managed.

Not having a file extension is okay on Linux and macOS but unusual on Windows platforms.

One good thing about this file extension is that you cannot overwrite important files by accident. So, you can have that "Squeak.image" workspace saved in a file "Squeak.image.text".

Maybe we can collect more perspectives on how to map Workspace window titles to file names here.

Best,
Marcel

Hi Folks

Here are some preferences I have on the functionality on saving a workspace to a file and back.

The common scenario is that I want to share notes across images and workspaces.

So, when I have a Workspace I have renamed to "Foo" I save it to file and the app appends a ".text" to it.

In File Browser, when I do a "workspace with contents" Foo.text becomes "Workspace from Foo.text"

What I get is...
Foo->Foo.text->Workspace from Foo.text

What I request is Foo->Foo->Foo

Thank you for your time.

cheers.
