In the spirit of messaging and developing

around
developing CORBA extensions to Squeak? Perhaps even looking at
developing a
Squeaky ORB. I haven't had the luxury of experimenting with
ObjectShare's
distributed smalltalk which seems to be such an animal. I would be
very
interested to hear of anyone's experience with this or similar
products.

having worked for years with Smalltalk (and having developed also
some frameworks and a product for distribution and object database in
PPS VW), I never could find anything inspiring on CORBA. IMHO it's
"marketing strategy" is primarily "we too",
enabling to mix applications in many very different languages (some
even not oo) to _one_ distributed world of objects ( !!! ).

I have thought of a pure Smalltalk-wise distribution. One of the
results is described in the diploma theses 'Concurrency, Distribution
and Transactions for Object Environment' of my students Martin Kobetic
and Peter Neurath from 1995, see

The source code in PPS VW is also available there. If there would
be anybody interested in swaping this stuff to Squeak, you are
welcome. Maybe I'll convince some of my students ...
