size=2>AFAIK, squeak knows nothing about modems...it only communicates with
the windows socket APIs. You will need to connect to the internet prior
to running Squeak in order to access any internet resources. Does the
Mac attempt to establish an internet automatically when calling socket

no attempt to connect to the modem. This is true even when trying to load
the latest code updates. However, I just recently connected manually before
entering Squeak and was able to use scamper to download pages as well to
