<p>David N. Smith, one of IBM's first Smalltalkers, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004.<br>
Dave was an ardent supporter of Smalltalk from the its origins at PARC through IBM's own versions. He was the author of several books, including Concepts of Object-Oriented Programming, and IBM Smalltalk: The Language.
<p>For the last several years he was a dedicated Squeaker and a frequent contributor of high quality code, including significant improvements to the Number classes, early morphic drag and drop, and the ever popular wandering blob demo.
<p>Dave was a deep thinker, a dedicated researcher, a creative and supportive co-worker, and a good friend.
<p>We'll miss him.
