                    <p>Squeak runs on many Unix OS's and should compile "out 
                    of the box" for most versions of Unix running on most architectures, 
                    using only <a href="http://www.gnu.org/software/software.html">GNU 
                    make</a>. Squeak's makefiles use many extensions
                              provided only by GNU make and are thus
                              incompatible with other make versions.

              No matter what system you are on you will need to end up with these files to run Squeak 3.7, the latest released version:

              <li> Squeak3.7-nnnn-full.changes from the file
                        Squeak3.7-nnnn-full.zip in <a href="ftp://st.cs.uiuc.edu/pub/Smalltalk/Squeak/3.7/">3.7</a></li>
              <li> SqueakV3.sources in <a href="ftp://st.cs.uiuc.edu/pub/Smalltalk/Squeak/3.7/SqueakV3.sources.gz">SqueakV3.sources.gz</a>, sometimes included in the VM application</li>
              <li> Squeak VM application for your system, version 3.7 or later.</li>
            </ul>
            <p> The first three files are platform-independent and the
nnnn means some version number, pick the highest one available.  The fourth file 
              is the interpreter, or virtual machine (VM) application, and you must get one 
              that is intended for your particular computer.  The VM application may be a single executable file or some OS specific bundle. For
                      Macs, Windows, RISC OS and some unix/linux systems there
                      are full packages containing all 
              necessary files above.  For other 
              systems one must check.  If a full package is not built for
                      your system you can find the three system independent files in the 
                      3.7 directory of the
                      <a href="ftp://st.cs.uiuc.edu/Smalltalk/Squeak/3.7/"> 
                        ftp site.</a>

            <p>One can also get a complete CD from
                <a href="http://www.squeak.de/SqueakCD.html">
                 Squeak e.V</a></p>

                    <p>Finally, one should check the
