change to AnimatedGIFReadWriter conflicts with the fixes I posted
(specifically for the offset instVar)

PNGReadWriter changes conflict with Andreas' latest fixes

Otherwise, looks good to me (unless I'm missing some stream-like classes
that don't properly respond to close, closed, binary, etc.), and I'd
approve it.

How about removing the above changes and re-submitting it?
