[BUG][FIX] inspect element index ( [sm][et] works as announced )

  Hello,

  But, I think the previous version was based on a false assumption,
which is that the 'limit' is always same as collection size.  Also, I
think that using space is more sensible than just removing all returns.

  Please review the attached version again
