This is very off topic (and pedantic as well), but the table on that 
page clearly contradicts the paragraph above. Brazil (PAL-M) is all by 
itself "most of South America", and when you add Argentina (PAL-N) 
things become even more skewed. The table doesn't include Paraguay 
which I think uses PAL-M'.

That said, a DVD player in Brazil probably couldn't handle the PAL-G 
discs from Europe though it plays NTSC media quite well. So for the 
case of DVDs (this topic) the paragraph's mistake doesn't matter.

In case anyone is curious, PAL = "phase alternating line" and was an 
simple solution to the chroma drift that caused NTSC to be jokingly 
known as "Never Twice the Same Color". Increasing transistor budgets 
and brute force solutions have made it possible for the current 
generations not to know the horrors of the "tint" knob in their TV 
sets.
