[squeakland] Recording sound on the newest version of eToys

Thanks Steve.

It seems that my Windows 7 machine is not working properly. Here's what I've tried, so perhaps this should go in your tracker...

There are two choices for the first setting:

I've tried both On and Off. Both seem to reverb.

Then I've tried all three combinations of the second setting:

What I understand from this is that this will SAVE the first setting for the next time I start the program.

No matter what I do, the reverb continues.

I tried the text script:

But even when it's ticking my sound reverbs. I have never done a text script before, so I'm not entirely sure I've don't it correctly. All I'm doing is scripting the sound recorder and set it to ticking.

Thanks for the help. Any other suggestion?

Christine

So you set like this [cid:image005.png at 01CB6150.9C248C70] ?

Strange, I tried it on a Mac and it works, one other potential work around is to create a script switch to textual mode and paste the info below in and execute it once:
script1
    SoundPlayer stopReverb

You should NOT have to do this, but I would be curious to see if it works, if not may be Windows related issue and we will need to file an issue in tracker.

So, we tried it and it still reverbs. Any further suggestions?

Sorry, forget to mention how to get to preferences:

Get the Halo for the world, then click on the menu icon [cid:image006.png at 01CB6150.9C248C70] and select preferences.

Christine,

You need to turn the soundReverb preference off (IMO this should be the default).

Go to preferences search for reverb after you check it hover over the name of the preference and click on the name and then from the menu click on "set automatically on startup ..." this will allow you to always have it off.

NOTE: you have to do the "set automatically on startup ..." from the home screen on startup (IMO this should be doable at any time.

Hi.

I just downloaded the newest version of Etoys and am having trouble recording high quality sounds. I pull the sound recorder out of the objects box, record my voice, and it sounds like I am in an echo chamber. I've tried a headset mic, as well as a built-in headset and speakers, and I've tried the same activity on another computer, with the same result.

I'm working on a Windows 7 machine, but the other computer I tried (unsuccessfully), was an XP computer. I haven't tried it on a Mac or on an XO, so I don't know if this is a more prevalent problem.

I would be most grateful for any suggestions or workarounds.

Christine
