Just a small note for the historically inclined. I should be included  
in that list, as I did the OS/2 port of Squeak in 1997. I'm pretty  
sure that was before Acorn, and at one time it had the fastest display  
update and lowest latency audio of them all. I used it and maintained  
it for several years, until OS/2 essentially died. The bits are still  
available at  
http://www.jvuletich.org/Squeak/SqueakForOS2/SqueakForOS2Eng.html . In  
the OS/2 desktop screenshot there you can see the C projects for the  
VM and several plugins.
