"Oh please" yourself!  As usual, your outburst offers no specific or
usable critique, just overstated drama.  You mentioned "ancient"
twice, isn't that true about Smalltalk in-general?

Are you still working in Squeak 3.8 or something?  Why not join the
rest of us in Squeak 4.5 where the use of String's to access and
manipulate the filesystem has been unnecessary and defunct for a good
4-5 years now?
