I've also compiled the "opensmalltalk" squeak-cog-spur vm in 64 bit

bash-4.4$ file lib/squeak/5.0-202003291211-solaris/squeak

Version 1 [SSE2 SSE], dynamically linked, not stripped


The good news is that this seems to run the 64 bit  5.x images:

bash-4.4$ bin/squeak Squeak5.3-19431-64bit.image          

It works, and in addition I don't have the 'screen redraw' problem that I
have with the 32bit squeak-cog-spur, so the 64 bit vm seems to work better
...

So for the moment the "best" vm I have is the "classic vm" in the 32 bit
case (for 4.x images),
and the "squeak.cog.spur 64bit vm" for the 5.x images in 64 bit
