The only possible comfort I can offer here is that I was able to build an x86 vm for linux to support the "Raspberry Pi Desktop for x86" distro. That runs the NuScratch, of course. And it requires the unicode plugin.

The annoying thing is that I can't find any mail/notes about this, so I'm unable to point to any particular solutions I found.
