Squeak is a modern, open source, full-featured implementation of the powerful Smalltalk programming language and environment. Squeak is highly-portable -- even its virtual machine is written entirely in Smalltalk making it easy to debug, analyze, and change. Squeak 4.3 Released
There aren't any applications bundled with this release. Instead of working on applications to bundle with the image, core developers have been inspired by the Cog virtual machine to look deeply into the image for things they wanted to change. As a result, the image is becoming smaller, tidier, and nimbler.
Cog, 11B a Squeak JIT VM with 2x-10x Speedup Released
Eliot Miranda announced that Teleplace released under a MIT license his work on a long awaited and anticipated new JIT virtual engine for Squeak and friends called Cog with 2x-10x improvement in performance.
