Is there a tandard way to attach context menus

Hello all, is there a standard way to attach a context menu to a morph? It's fairly easy to do by checking for yellowButtonPressed and manually firing up a MenuMorph. But it is sufficient to implement #addCustomMenuItems:hand: to get an enhanced Halo menu while #addYellowButtonMenuItemsTo:event: and #hasYellowButtonMenu don't help. One click setup for 3.9 [win]

Hi people, I create a one click setup for newbies. It will do the following things after run: 1. download SqueakVM from ftp.squeak.org 2. download 3.9 images, soruces ftp.squeak.org 3. extract all things 4. create shortcut in desktop and program menu. I found the download process may cost some time, because there is only one download session. The installer can work only in Windows. It can be get from: http://liuxinyu95.googlepages.com/squeak3.9_win_installer.exe I created it with NullSoft installation system scripts. Is there a way to watch all the messages flowing in Squeak?

Although everything in Squeak is open, I find it quite hard sometimes to track down what is calling what. It would be great if I could open up a window to see which object is being called when I e.g. right click on the surface and bring up the World menu etc. Is there some way to turn on the debugger and just let it run, or something like that? thanks Andy B

squeak on the ps3

Howdy I am interested in squeak on the sony ps3. I think it would be a great platform for education. The ps3 comes with Linux and is reported to support other operating systems (SQUEAK OS?). It has state of the art multimedia hardware. Yellow Dog Linux has already announced their Linux will be available on the ps3. The various coprocessors and other hardware would be a lot of fun with plugins. Squeak on a HD 1080p display!!! I think the ps3 could attract lots of kids that want to build media. We plan to play with a squeak wiki and croquette on the assumption that they would be great collaboration tools for working with kids and education. Etc etc enthuse enthuse ;-) If they sell the million consoles the first year... hmmm Is anyone else interested in a ps3 squeak? Gary

Test Failures and Errors

Downloaded Squeak 3.9-final-7067 and ran all tests; 2160 tests ran with 2138 passes, 2 "expected failures", 15 failures, and 5 errors. The errors include four float errors dealing with arcCos and arcSin. Of less importance to most of us, I assume! But StringTest also fails, indicating testIndexOf failed, making me worried that I have set something up incorrectly. Tried on different Macintosh (G5 PPC, first run was on Intel based OSX) and got similar results with "virgin" download. Are these test failures known? I was rather surprised to have anything but "green" when I ran these tests.

Restrict access to objects and methods

I just started looking at Squeak and SmallTalk last night and I'm already getting hooked! I have a best of both worlds question. The ability to access and edit any method or abject all using SmallTalk is great, but is there any way to restrict a program so it can only access certain objects? What I'm looking for is a way to allow code to be compiled and run in Squeak, but keep that program from being able to make or save changes to the world, access the host (Windows/Linux, etc) file system, etc. My first impression is that this goes against the grain of Squeak's basic architecture and premise, but I'm wondering if maybe there's some way to set up a world inside a world or something like that. Would it be possible to create an object that serves as a virtual world for a program to run in? A program running in this setup could have access to all or most of the same classes as a program in the real world, but it could only access the virtual-world object, it's children and maybe an explicit subset of real world objects as defined by the virtual-world object. transferring .image from mac to pc

Absolute newbie :: Creating a GUI application

Hi all, I'm completely new to Squeak and Smalltalk, but very interested in learning something about it. The best way to learn a development environment, is to develop a simple application, I need a simple GUI application with data management and persistence in database (sort of very basic ERP), and so I wanted to take the opportunity to write it in Squeak. bbc radio4 got a good program on history of modern education

Hi all, http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/childhood/ I still don't have time to actually get start with Squeak or Croquet, but been reading and thinking about S Papert and Alan Kay etc, for sometime (like a decade) - and I found listening to those programs giving me some very captivating moments. Program title has 'childhood' emphasized but it is possible to say the entire program is about some elements/ingredients of history of modern education - how it has been. I heard episode 3 - about Locke and Rousseau, and I thought of posting to this list but hesitated. Just now hearing about Dickens and Christmas - episode 4, made me decided not to think about twice. I wonder this might be more suitable for squeak-dev list, but I am not a subscriber to that list, so if someone finds it's adequate, please post the link. I wonder it might also be interesting or meaningful to people working on OLPC too. Hope some find it good and useful. Thanks, A.

Trouble installing the Squeak VM in EM64T Debian Etch Linux

Hi! I've been facing trouble when installing the latest stable version of Squeak(3.7-7) in my EM64T Debian Etch linux. At first, i tried to install the raw binaries with hope that the kernel would accept it , but it didn't worked out... So i decided to build squeak VM from the source tarball. When running the make build script , some of the stuff is compiled but the build fails.
