Is there a tandard way to attach context menus

Hello all, is there a standard way to attach a context menu to a morph? It's fairly easy to do by checking for yellowButtonPressed and manually firing up a MenuMorph. But it is sufficient to implement #addCustomMenuItems:hand: to get an enhanced Halo menu while #addYellowButtonMenuItemsTo:event: and #hasYellowButtonMenu don't help. Omnibrowser help

Are there some tips/documentation somewhere on getting the most out of the OmniBrowser? The MulitpleSelection browser looks interesting (sort of like the tabbed browser in VisualWorks), but I don't quite understand its behaviour and what method it decides to show in which pane when you move around or save changes. On the same topic, can anyone point me toward how I could add a new item to the class context menu in the OmniBrowser? I want to add a new template selection menu item (like "new class template" and "new trait template") because I have created a method that creates TWO classes at the same time for an Aida application (A domain model class AND its associated WebApp class). MonticelloBrowser question

Hello, could anybody help me to understand, how to use MonticelloBrowser? (Working with 3.9 #7067) I read SBE and it says: " The right-hand pane lists all of the source-code repositories that Monticello knows about, usually because it has loaded code from them. If you select a package in the left pane, the right pane is filtered to show only those repositories that contain versions of the selected package." However, I don't see that happen. If I select e.g. OmniBrowser in the left pane, the list in the right pane is reduced to a local path on my filesystem (the package-cache). But if I deselect all in the left pane to see all the repositories in the right pane, then select 'http://source.wiresong.ca/ob' and open the repository I get a browser containing lots of newer version of OmniBrowser (and other packages). Now these repository browsers always take some time to load and I have to check different repositories by hand to find the latest version. What is the right way to search (and update) to the latest release of a package? Thanks for your help, Christoph

Downloading the Squeak By Example Sources from the SVN reposotory

Hi all, I'm interested in downloading the sources of Squeak By Example Sources from the SVN reposotory. I see that there is a web place to browse the sources, but there is a way to download all them (and the changelog files) to my hard disk? Cheers, Offray

Reading and writing C structs

An instrument I am working with creates a complicated binary file (memory dumps of C structs). I would like to try reading the file into Squeak for a cool new project. What's the best way to set up and read C-based structs and then, once I'm done, to write them back out again (including endianness, padding bytes and all the other nonsense)? I could use pointers to related classes as well if they are needed/useful for working with primitive types like this. An example would be great. I found that there are some interesting methods in PositionableStream for reading and writing integer types from a binary stream. Is this where I should start? What about floats and doubles? This seems a bit low-level, but I could work with it. I'm a so-so C programmer with experience in Python, but still learning Smalltalk. David

Examples of GUI programs developed in Squeak

I am considering developing an application in Squeak for the analysis and processing of sonar data. The most interesting part of the program is a visual analysis tool that would be used for filtering, mosaicking and GIS-type analysis. Superficially, it would resemble and indeed work a lot like a photo editing application, only instead of working with R,G,B values, each pixel in the image represents a complex matrix of information derived from the sonar system, the vessel GPS and motion sensors, etc. ImageJ for sonars, if you will. A lot of people would code this type of thing in C++ or C#, but I see some value in a dynamic system like Smalltalk that would make it easy to add new complex filters that allow us to do interesting research on sonar analysis. I am willing to give up performance to gain a powerful development environment. The question is: is Squeak the right smalltalk for this kind of thing? Does it have the support for images, matrix algebra, plain old performance for signal processing to build a photo-shop-like application? I guess it has been used for Robot control, which would have similar performance demands. What do you think? Maybe there is some cool stuff that could be done with Morphic to go places a photoshop-type application can't go. Maybe Morphic will suck at this type of thing, I don't know. Exchanging Elements in an OrderedCollection

This is a curiosity question that will hopefully help me understand the Squeak *system* better. I have an Aida application in which I find myself doing a lot of list manipulation, and given the reputation Smalltalk has for the strength of it's collection classes, I felt sure I would find a method SOMEWHERE that exchanged two elements. So...am I just no good at finding what I'm looking for (swap, exchange, move?), or is it because it is so simple to write something like exchange: index1 and: index2 |temp| temp := self at: index1. self at: index1 put: (self at: index2). self at: index2 put: temp. that no one would even think of needing to include such behavior? Again, just wondering so I can "measure" my understanding of how little I know and better gauge whether I think I can find an answer from the system itself... Of course, the answer is probably "why don't you just..." along with a single line...! Thanks, Rob

TextMorph adapting size to contents

Hi, I am looking for a TextMorph which adapts its size to an arbitrarily sized content. By trial and error I could find that (TextMorph new contents: 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'; fontName: 'Accuny' pointSize: 24; wrapFlag: true; autoFit: true; wrapFlag: false) openInWorld does the job. However to turn on and off again the wrapFlag is not really satisfactory. Is there a better solution ? New Project.

I wish to re-write a 'basic' program (my own program) I am currently using with a Squeak version. I cannot find examples of many of the things I want to do in this program so can someone tell me if these things are possible in Squeak and if so where I can maybe find examples. The Project. 1. Have a screen that is bullet-proof in terms of 'leaving the program' i.e. all keys disabled except specially programmed set of keys that only I know. (So I can escape program when testing). 2. Have a photo (.bmp probably), text for photo and .wav file linked so they can be downloaded together to form the 3 elements of the display. These must be able to accessed randomly so will be in some sort of database/direct access file system. It must be possible to enter new Photo/Text/Wav data into system without access to main program.(i.e. not hard coded into the Squeak program) 3. The photo will be displayed in top half of screen, the text will be immediately beneath it - each character of the text displayed as a 'button' type letter and the 'text' will be spoken via .wav file as the text is displayed. 4. The student will then type in each letter of the 'text' as shown. The program will only accept the correct letter (Ignoring case or case sensitive depending on a 'switch'). They will get aural feedback when the correct letter is typed. When the word has been completed the student will get a 'positive feedback response' either visual,aural or both.
