Is there a tandard way to attach context menus

Hello all, is there a standard way to attach a context menu to a morph? It's fairly easy to do by checking for yellowButtonPressed and manually firing up a MenuMorph. But it is sufficient to implement #addCustomMenuItems:hand: to get an enhanced Halo menu while #addYellowButtonMenuItemsTo:event: and #hasYellowButtonMenu don't help. Omnibrowser help

Are there some tips/documentation somewhere on getting the most out of the OmniBrowser? The MulitpleSelection browser looks interesting (sort of like the tabbed browser in VisualWorks), but I don't quite understand its behaviour and what method it decides to show in which pane when you move around or save changes. On the same topic, can anyone point me toward how I could add a new item to the class context menu in the OmniBrowser? I want to add a new template selection menu item (like "new class template" and "new trait template") because I have created a method that creates TWO classes at the same time for an Aida application (A domain model class AND its associated WebApp class). Resources with Monticello

Hi all, how does one work with resources (e.g. image files (GIFs, ...)) used in the application when working with Monticello and in general? Right now I have them on my hard drive and they are read live into Squeak when they are needed. Of course, others don't have the files at hand when working in a distributed fashion. What are the best practices in regard of distribution/packaging as well as performance? Parsing and splitting file contents

Ok, I am new to smalltalk. I have tried browsing and searching for methods related to parsing and splitting file contents based on a delimiter, but I am not having much success. :( Old google is not helping either so I can only assume that I am missing something "obvious". I am reading a tab delimited file into a string. I want to iterate through this string and split by tab, or any other defined value (, . | # tab, cr, etc.), delimiter into substrings which are assigned to a Collection (Array, Dictionary, Bag, etc.), or instant variables. I was hoping there was going to be something like: Bag := FileStream collect: [:x | split: crlf]. Dictionary := Bag collect: [:x | split: tab]. Does that make any sense? Basically create Bag with contents of FileStream split by crlf and then split Bag elements by tab into key value pairs. Again, I am surprised by the lack of examples demonstrating to newbies how to perform basic operations such as this. I know it is not the smalltalk way of learning, but it does raise the bar for making progress. The language may be easy, but finding which methods to use to solve problems is a bit laborious. The fact that I would potentially need to hack the compiler to write my little app raised a huge red flag for me, which indicated that I was probably not approaching the problem correctly. I was not reaching Smalltalk ZEN. As such, I approached the issue from a different angle and am happy to say that i accomplished my goal. I went from ground zero with Smalltalk to accomplishing my goal in just a few days and am actually quite pleased with the outcome. I have not had the same early success in other languages I have tried ... How to introspect method instance variables

The reason for the question is strictly pedagogical. I am learning Smalltalk and i am playing with implementation of a Cells type package ala LISP or pyCells and Cellulose from the Python world. I do not really expect complete this, as I said its just a learning exercise. The question around the instance variables stems from the fact that they appear to be tantalizingly close to the surface given the fact that the Browser recognizes undeclared identifiers and asks if they are temps or instance and then plugs in the code for me. I am just too new to be able to figure out how to intercept the messages being sent. how to sort by key a Dictionary object?

Hello All I have a Dictionary object containing key value objects. I want to be able to retrieve the key-values by sort order on the key field. Any ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated. At the moment everything is being returned unsorted. The key field is a year date and the value a URL to that year's archive. Thanks in advance for the information.

I know this was already covered but to simplify the explination for the beginner: Sort is automatic for Dictionaries. | dict | dict := Dictionary new. dict at: '3c' put: 'object 3c'. dict at: '1a' put: 'object 1a'. dict at: '2b' put: 'object 2b'. dict Evaluating the code with "Print It" will respond: a Dictionary('1a'->'object 1a' '2b'->'object 2a' '3c'->'object 3a' ) ---------------------- A useful capability of Dictionaries is merging files by key. Add old objects then overwriting with new objects and sorting is automatic. | dict | dict := Dictionary new. dict at: '3c' put: 'object 3c'. dict at: '1a' put: 'object 1a'. dict at: '3c' put: 'new object 3c'. dict a Dictionary('1a'->'object 1a' '3c'->'new object 3c' )

I have defined a method, i.e., someMethod anInstVariable := anotherInstVariable1 + anotherInstVariable2. I would like to intercept the acceptance of this method by the browser and programatically determine what instance variables this method is using so that I can grab these names for other processing tasks. Additionally, I would really like to be able to determine what instance variables are being assigned to, for instance, anInstVariable in this case and which ones are the "independent" instance variables, anotherInstVariable1 and anotherInstVariable2 in this case. How can I do this? Thanks
