Feedback: Using Output as the Next Input

Howdy, A class is instantiated and produces output in a data structure (array, collection, dictionary, ...). Upon each later (maybe months later) instantiation, the previous output is needed as input. What is the best way to do this for modest (not huge) output? Some possibilities: Externally - file out and file in Within the class - compile class methods containing the output; save with Montecello I'm interested in how to dynamically compile a class method. Can Browser be invoked dynamically? In studying Browser and friends, it looks complicated. Am I missing something or attempting something foolish or ...? - Dan

I see there are over 700 packages out there for the choosing. A great variety. The output is a dictionary and the rules specify that no pair can be the same as previous (up to 3) instances. There are other rules and often hundreds of iterations take place before all pairs obey all the rules. It might be used, as it is in our family, to draw names for Christmas. The person who runs the program distributes the results to those on the list. - Dan

squeak and 3D graphics

I've done very little with squeak and smalltalk, and almost nothing with 3D graphics, or bezier curves. But still, I'd like to learn, just for personal satisfaction. It seems that Balloon2D would be a good starting point. Am I completely off base or crazy? Is Balloon2D a good place to start? E-toys? Scratch? Can anybody point to good books, articles, tutorials, or examples? TIA Chuck

Celeste Questions

Does anyone use Celeste for the lists? Is it advisable to try to get it going on the current VM? If not then what version of Squeak and how to get it off the ground from scratch? Thanks, - Dan

Looking for help with some issues I've come across in Squeak 4.5 All-In-One for Windows.

Squeak 4.5 All-In-One OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) D:\Squeak-4.5-All-In-One Hey everyone, It's been several years since I tried to learn Squeak so I'm not surprised that things have changed, but these issues are a bit unusual so I thought I'd ask for some help. Anyway long story short (Too late! Hehehe) here are some of the things that appear to be broken or have changed making it difficult to work in Squeak 4.5. 1. Unable to "Save Project" and "Save Project As". When I do, it allows me to name the Project and it brings up the Resource Folder which doesn't show the "Squeaklets" folder (which should and does exist) and when I try to save anywhere in the resources or another folder I receive a Debug error "MessageNotUnderstood: ScrapBook>>emptyScrapsBook". 2. Unable to find packages in "StarMap Catagories" and "StarMap Catalog" other than the ones already in my Squeak distribution. Now if there is a new way to find and install packages in Squeak please let me know. I've only been using Squeak for a few hours now and these stumbling blocks are making it difficult to learn how to properly use Squeak so if anyone can assist me with these I would greatly appreciate it. Creating a Class from composite morphs

Hello, Is there a mechanism in squeak to select a composite morph and create a new Class? For example, you can graphically create composite morphs with the user interface by dropping various morphs into other morphs. You can save that morph to a file and read it in but there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to add it to the Class library in your image. There is a command for making a subclass but that seems to lose all of the submorphs. This seems like a feature that Morphic should have. So if it doesn’t then I am concerned that I am missing something about the proper way to develop in squeak. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks in advance! Michael

Saving a project...kaput?

Haven't Squeaked in a while, refreshing my memory I tried creating a simple example script: 1) drag a line morph into the playfield 2) open a view on it 3) drag a new script from the line view to the playfield 4) drag a turn script from the line view to the new line script 5) name the new line script "rotate" 6) save the project I get this error walkback: Scrapbook(Object)>> doesNotUnderstand: #emptyScrapsBook I noticed that the save widget file list doesn't include my Squeaklets folder even though it exists in ../Content/Resources Also, no sound, no matter whether I select Dummy... or the alternative. I'm using Fedora Linux 64-bit. Suggestions? Move to Window 8.1? Michael
