So, it was said that there's only one option of plugin right now (MPEG) for cross-platform. Considering that my application will run only with windows systems, is there any way to work with AVI and WMV formats as well?

Open MPEGMoviePlayer and click on the menu. There should be some options there.
Convert a mpeg movie or a folder of pictures.
