Good. I'm also cc'ing the box admins - anyone of us can help in the transfer. Shall we first announce it on squeak-dev? It probably means that we want to lock the swiki for a couple of hours while we are transferring it, might be polite to tell the community that beforehand. I've set Craig up with an account on box2 ('craig') and he now owns /var/www/files/Spoon/ and will be handling his uploads directly. Ken

Ken, Marcus, Serge, Sorry I failed to find the box-admins list last night and post it there (well, it took me 20 seconds to find it this morning). In a follow-up message, Serge Stinckwich is suggesting to use the morph list (I believe that's the morphic-splitters(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org). If that is acceptable to everyone (who makes the decision :) ), it is a better solution, (I should have waited with my request for new list). Marcus, please keep my request to create "math-morphs-revival" on hold, until we get consensus the MathMorphsRevival can reuse the "morphic-splitters" list (or not). You are a list administrator for the squeak-dev list and so as part of those duties you will be sent notifications of messages awaiting approval. For the last week or so I've been getting notifications that your mail system is refusing these notices. Please allow messages from squeak-dev-owner(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org . Ken Causey P.S. Can anyone tell me why in the last week notices of issues with the squeak-dev mailing list have started being sent to the box-admins list? (You haven't been seeing them because I haven't been approving them.) Did someone change that on purpose? I don't think that's a good idea since for spam reasons the list does not automatically allow all messages through and so notices of this sort will only be seen by me initially and I'm not in a position to do anything about squeak-dev issues of this sort.

I noticed that the current_development symbolic link goes to the 3.9alpha directory not the 3.9beta directory. I don't know how to change a symbolic link. Could one of the box admins do that ? Karl

Box-Admins Team Report for April, 2006

The box-admins team is reponsible for seeing that the community shared server is maintained and setting up any new features to be hosted on that server. I said there would be more to say about the new support for Subversion on the community server. I can say that as far as I'm aware it is ready but it has not yet been fully tested nor is it being used yet. Marcus requested the setup but has not been able to come up with the time to get things started on his end yet. Hopefully he will find some time soon to work on this and will let us all know when it is ready. Responsibility for the http://ftp.squeak.org/ site was transferred to the website team some months ago but that team continued to use the account previously setup for Bruce O'Neel for updating the site. To continue the transition I went ahead and changed the configuration and permissions so now anyone with access to the website team's account on the server can also access the FTP site for updating. Unfortunately I did not take into consideration the fact that the release team would need access to add updates to the update stream and to upload new image releases. Once this was pointed out to me I went ahead and gave the release team access to the website account. This works for now but some thought needs to be given to how to better coordinate this in the future. Other than giving Marcus a hand with a mailing list issue (forwarding messages sent to old defunct ezmlm lists to the new matching mailman lists) it was otherwise a quiet month. I want to thank the community for the monetary support needed to fund these boxes and remind them that the bills continue to appear and that you can currently contribute to the hosting bills by going to http://discuss.squeakfoundation.org/ and clicking on the 'donate' button at the top right. Note that a donation here may be used for other Squeak Foundation services including but not limited to development, development infrastructure, and promotion of Squeak. The services being hosted have continued to grow and include (but are not limited to): http://www.squeak.org/ SqueakMap - http://map.squeak.org/ http://ftp.squeak.org/ http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/ http://discuss.squeakfoundation.org/ http://source.squeakfoundation.org/ http://map.squeak.org/ https://svn.squeak.org/ (new subversion repository, not yet populated) and DNS services for squeak.org and squeakfoundation.org domain names. Deleting discuss lists?

Hi, People tend to send emails to the old @discuss adresses, which just disappear. Would it be possible to delete the lists, so people get an error message? Marcus

I'm so sorry, I didn't realize that you and Marcus were using the sqfiles account to update the stream. Responsibility for the FTP site has moved to the website team and changes to support this have been made on the server. I've now given both you and Marcus access to the website team's account via ssh. Please now use: sftp website@squeak.org:ftpsite Ken P.S. We (box-admins, v3dot9, and website teams) probably need to give some thought to how this needs to work in the future.
