Damage to More Objects chapter (renamed)

I am in the middle of repairing extensive damage in the More Objects chapter (which I just now renamed from More Etoys Objects) of the Etoys Reference Manual. I find fragments of text from unidentified object descriptions, without section headings, and out of alphabetical order, all of which I have to track down and correct. Rita, is this your work? Has somebody else stepped in without talking to either of us? If so, please stop and let me do it instead. The information on Squeak implementations belongs either with the original object definitions, or in a separate chapter, which I am now leaning towards. We cannot divide it up so that the object is defined in the Objects chapter, and the information on its Squeak implementation is in the More Objects chapter. I am playing around trying to prototype some ideas for touch interface and need some coding help with the following: I need code to: - change script status to any of the options listed: - mouse down, mouse up, mouse still down - perform each of the halo actions: - open viewer - move (on next touch) - rotate (in increments as well - Move to Trash - Pick up on "click/touch" - Move on "click/touch" - Open Color Picker for a specific object - Get Object reference when "mouse still down" - Repaint - Open a Viewer - Show rotate handle Only and move when I touch and drag - Above, but move increments (15, 30, 45, 90 degrees) - FIre a script when I mouse/hover over a scripting tile that is in a viewer. So instead of showing balloon help, I want to: - show custom help , perhaps something similar to a quick guide and eventually using a format similar to what Ted did for roll your own quick guides, but instead using the local Etoys directories so kids and teachers don't have to worry about any security or finding special directories - Change scale of a scripting tile when it is in a script editor Thanks, Stephen

Hello, I thought you might enjoy reading this article about Etoys and the Etoys Pilot in Unit 4 Schools. Sadly, the person who wrote the headline has incorrectly attributed the software to the University of Illinois. The reporter has the facts correct in the article but the headline editor must not have read the article well. I have sent a note asking for a correction to be published, but that is never the same, is it. My apologies to all the developers. It is, however, great publicity for our pilot of Etoys in Champaign middle schools. I heard today that the city newspaper is doing interviews for an article and a local TV station has started filming for a story too. Hi Karl, You are getting an early on new features, it's great to read about these changes. Remind me how to get into the site so I can download and try the version that includes the modifications. I meant to do that last year but never really got going. If I do keep informed I could write Quick Guides. Network discovery

Hi I have been testing network discovery by [:masashi | ^umezawa]. Package is http://squeaksource.blueplane.jp/Discovery/. It seems to work in the limited testing I have done, I downloaded server and client images from http://swikis.ddo.jp/SuperSwiki2/19 and when I opened the port for Superswiki2 in my firewall the client image had no trubble finding the server. Some integration will be needed for other tools to work with Discovery it seems, chat badge etc seems not to work. Have others tested Discovery ? Karl
