MaClassDefinition in question

I have found that a MaClassDefinition instance for one of my domain class still refers to an old definition. I discover this when updating a readstrategy with an instance variable in the newest class definition but not in the older one (and not in the one defined by the MaClassDefinition instance) I try to remove the instances of my domain. Close and restart the session. But still I got the oldest definition and obviously the readstrategy definition is causing error. Hilaire

[ANN] iStoa, a project using Magma

Hello, This is just a brief note to let you know I am using Magma as a backend for an education application of interactive exercise for primary schools. Magma is used to record all the student achievements. It is still in active development stage and stuff can be look at http://www.istoa.net (only in French but Google will translate it easily in English). Nothing usable for end users. The OO nature of the Magma persistency is very important as it greatly enhance the abstraction level of the persisted data (no flat data but living instances). Basicly I record in Magma the exercice instances of the student (and some more), but also EventRecord so the whole student activity can be replayed. The OO level just greatly help to persist a wide range of exercices instance without to worry about the specific interactive nature of the exercices (the benefice is huge) Part of the application is also using Seaside so the teacher can review the student achievement. In the Seaside application a squeak plugin with Magma is used to replay the student activity directly from the browser. All in all, Magma is nice, but I fell that ODB require more carefull design compare to RDB. So more attention is required but the reward is hudge ;-) Hilaire Fernandes

[bug] InvalidDirectoryError

In the past, when the magma repository directory was missing I used to get a MagmaEnvironmentError, I now get an InvalidDirectoryError. This indicates to me that magma is nolonger explicitly trapping this case and handling it cleanly. best regards Keith

Wrong Code Version of the repository

<magma(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org>Hello, i try to open an older magma repository using: MagmaServerConsole new open: '/myrepository' ; processOn: 9010. This throws the error: 'This database requires code version x. You are running version y. The Error is thrown in MaObjectRepository>>validateVersion. Can i upgrade a repository to a higher code version and how can i do that? Thanks in advance, Heiko

Persisting TextMorph change the size of the text

I have found this strange bug: when persisting a TextMorph (System set with default font to Accujen 10), when I fetch it back from the DB its font size is Accujen 9 and not 10 anymore A simple code like that exposes the problem (close the session between the two statements to effectively get the text morph from the database): (session addBranch: #test with: 'HELLO' asTextMorph ) openInWorld textStyle ==> a TextStyle Accujen10 Then fetching back after a full close of the DB: (session branch: #test) textStyle ==> a TextStyle Accujen09 Any idea ? complete domain independence

I'm happy to report I have improved Magma so that the MagmaCollectionIndex is no longer required in the server image. This was a very annoying "exception" to the feature that the server does not need any domain classes. Custom index types are rightfully considered part of the domain, and requiring them (unnecessarily, it turned out) in the server means a completely static codebase in the server was not possible. Now, with r40, it will be. Oh, also, r40 will automatically upgrade legacy repositories. You'll see a warning once, a brief upgrade will occur and you're ready to roll with the r40 code. Further, it is planned that all future releases will be able to co-exist with r40. Just a few more things to do, r40 will be a worthwhile upgrade.. thanks for your patience. - Chris

Hi, I did a new fresh image based on the last squeak-dev image and Seaside 2.8. I loaded MagmaServerLoader-kph.31 without problems. Then I tried to load Magma seaside-kph.75 and got this error : This package depends on the following classes: WADispatcherEditorPlugin TestCaseUsingMagma Where can I get theses packages and why are they needed ? Is there any documentation on the logging added in this package ? Ok then I got other errors... Q2Log is needed. I found it under SLLog on SqueakMap (http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/pipermail/setools/2007-June/000404.html). After the warning to upgrade the db to version .9, I got this error : MultifileByteStream doesNotunderstand: #maSetPositionToEnd in MaRecoveryManager>>openCommitLog. I changed #maSetPositionToEnd to setToEnd and proceeded without errors. Then I got an error coming from the fact than the class variable MaxPhysicalFileSize of MaAtomicFileStream was not initialized because the class was already definied. Same goes with the class variable of MaRecoveryManager. Then the database was fucked up (does not seem to be a Magma database). And after recover of a backup, the upgrade didn't pop up. I don't understand why... Then I tried to use Magma but a read got me an other error : A primitive has failed with a ByteArray new: (1/4) in MaHashIndexRecord>>keySize:valueSize:numberOfSlots:. I stopped there because obviously the upgrade to the last version of magma is not possible. I will do a new fresh image and try again... Florian Florian Minjat wrote: > Sorry for this message.
