speech synthesis

Has anyone been working on speech synthesis for Squeak? I have roughly implemented -enterely in Squeak- a synthesizer based upon rsynth (Klatt cascade/parallel filter bank synthesizer and rule-based text to phonemes translator), but it's just an experiment... the quality is pour and it's very slow. I'd like to do something in the diphone concatenation direction (just like Festival does, for instance). I'd like to know of other people working in the same thing for Squeak, if there are any. I trying to build the original version of squeak 1.31 using the source files I downloaded for Windows NT. I am using Visual C++ 5.0. BTW, Sun Labs (www.sunlabs.com) has a project on persistent object environment for Java and Java 1.2 implements Collection class and its subclasses. And there are many UI ideas from the Self 4.0 project from Sun Labs that Java language have used, like automatic layout (Java LayoutManager) and some UI widgets. But we have a sincere form of flattery too: the Morphic UI. About this, I would like to know what enhancements are planned for Morphic UI on next release of Squeak? I would like to have the "mechanism" that Morphic interface uses to make the UI components comunicate between them and comunicate with some "model" class.
