It is really great we finally "rescue" historical contents! The tutorial have example projects attached. James Davis, I had been wondering about the flaps for a while but, never took the trouble of asking. Thank you for asking so I also enjoy the answers you are receiving. Since the projects in the Showcase are shared by people at all levels, from experts to guys like me just starting, instructions are very important. These days I have been looking at ideas for showing instructions. I liked very much digimath's solution at Frog Puzzle (2009-oct-28 22:49 EDT) por Digimath <digimath> Click on the red Help button and a book opens. Press the space bar and it closes. Inspired by this solution and with the desire of putting bilingual instructions since most of the community communicates in English and most of us in Uruguay communicate in Spanish, I came up with the solution I show at Aprendo I Learn 005 (2009-dic-22 14:47 EST) por carlos <carlos>

Thanks for the suggestions re: large sketches. Now I have another new user-ish type question. I have seen in some projects an "About" tab that expands when clicked to reveal information about a project. How do you do that? jd

Hi, Get the world's halo. Clic on the menu and choose 'preferences' In the blue part click on 'menu' then check 'escapeKeyProducesMenu' Now hit esc Key, you get a menu with flaps... lick there and in the submenu, you'll find 'create new flap' just what you need. You'll be asked for the side you wants the flap beeing attached to. if you want to have escapeKeyProducesMenu pemanently, you can record the image( which is the actual state of your Etoys not a picture) . In that case just open Etoys, enable 'escapeKeyProducesMenu' and save the image using a save image in the bottom of the worldmenu. This will work only if you have right for writing to he etoys.image file. Creating large sketches?

Hello -- How do you create a sketch of a size larger than the default size? I want to create something like the "Seaside" pictures on the etoysillinois,org site (creating a big background picture that works like a stage set). When I create a new sketch, it has particular dimensions. If I resize the drawing it stretches what I have drawn. When I go back to editing / repainting the sketch that I stretched, the sketch window is at it's original size/dimensions. (Well not exactly the original dimensions -- each time I go to repaint the sketch, it looks Etoys adds about 30 pixels on the left and right.) If I change the height and width via the Viewer, it looks like that is the same as stretching the sketch (when I go back to repainting, the sketch is resized to its original dimensions). I would like to do all of the drawing inside Etoys (instead of making a large bitmap with another tool and bringing it into EToys. So... Is there a way to resize the initial drawing area for a sketch? jd

Etoys-To-Go works perfectly

I have just gone to the page http://squeakland.org and donwloaded Etoys-To-Go. It is fantastic! I saved it to a pendrive (USB flash memory). It took 77.1 MB for the program plus 1 MB for the Etoys folder where I kept two proyects. I am using a1 GB pendrive, one of the smallest ones, there is plenty of room available. Etoys-To-Go runs directly from the pendrive, no need to install. I put the pendrive in a computer. Using Etoys-To-Go from the pendrive, I downloaded two projects I have stored at "My Squeakland" and saved them to the Etoys folder in the pendrive. Took the pendrive to another computer. I opened both projects without any problem. I modified one of the projects and saved it again to the pendrive. I put the pendrive in the first computer again, opened the modified project and ... there it was exactly as modified in the second machine. I see three logos next to Etoys-To-Go. Today I used it in two machines with MacOSX but I also see the Linux and WIndows logos. I imagine I could have used a XO at a school or one of the Windows machines at the cybercafé. Imagine how many problems may be solved with Etoys-To-Go for children with problems to access a computer or an internet connection. They may keep both Etoys-To-Go and their project folder in a pendrive and work wherever they can get a computer for a period of time. They may complete one project after working for example at school, at home, at a cybercafé or with any computer borrowed from friends or relatives.
