It is really great we finally "rescue" historical contents!
The tutorial have example projects attached. Where will we maintain
them (revised for newer version of Etoys)?
of course Showcase is one option, but it seems better if flossmanuals
can manage such materials for translation and distribution,

Hi everyone,
I'm very happy to announce that Seymour Papert is now a part of the
Squeakland Foundation:
http://squeakland.org/about/people/
The photo is a recent one of Seymour. He's doing well, reading the
New York Times each morning, working on projects from home.
We are of course thrilled to have him part of the team.
Take care,
Tim

Hehe, my version of Roulette is available at:
http://dev.laptop.org/~yoshiki/etoys/Roulette.005.pr
The description in the project says:
---------------------------
A remake of Mr. Yokoyama's (former principal of Wada Elementary
School) Etoy for first graders. A painting with a bit of tools and
just one script with one line (and tick rate change) to make a
sufficiently engaging project for 6 years old.
This can be later extended to talk about angles and probability.
Notably, with this kind of simple projects as the starter,
Mr. Yokoyama successfully get the eco-system where the older kids make
projects and teach projects to younger kids.
---------------------------
Yes, one of the disturbing things is that I have no idea why a
project never shows up on the site...
Mr. Yokoyama came to Squeakfest in Chicago several years ago and
presented his experience. "Roulette" was one of projects he showed,
and people were quite impressed with the effort.
Even after he retired, the "legacy" stays and they still use Etoys
at the school on Saturday special sessions. He has many projects for
kids and improve them always...

Dear all,
To finalize my phd dissertation I need a few feedback on the DrGeo[1]
software for interactive geometry I developed with Squeak and deployed on
Etoys.
I have noted its XO bundle for the 100$ laptop was downloaded more than 110
000 times since last summer[2].
If you have any experience using the software with kids or know use of it
with kid, please let me privately.
Thanks

I went to:
http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/Etoys/WebHome
I registered and logged in.
I was automatically given the title of writer.
So far I have been getting familiar with Floss Manuals and what you
are doing with the Etoys Manual.
I don't think I would be in a position to make interesting
contributions as a writer.
However, I see the whole set up is ready to allow for translations
and would be glad to attempt translating your work into Spanish.
The resulting translation would be tremendously helpful as a
complement of anything I try to do here.
If you think this is a good idea, could you please give me some
guidelines.
I have been able to read some of the material written so far.
Maybe I could start learning and practicing by translating and
"incomplete" chapter.
Thanks for your comments.

Or if they insist on the concrete, use the idea of taking a survey to determine what color M&M a particular girl is most likely to enjoy.

Hopefully this will discourage our enemies and the small little vermin they call "children", so that they never come back. Remind them they are protecting their precious little ones and doing a great service to humanity (don't mention actual children or the worse things they are exposed to in the real world). Also re-enforce their misguided notion that if they allow words like "mojo" they will scare off schools from using Etoys. Their desire not to offend anyone will help mute much of their effectiveness. Remind them that the other key to success is to try and please everyone.

If they do a search there and see what kind of projects there are and how it has expanded around the world in such a short time, all is lost. Ensure he does not tell where else he may have posted it (probably on that deplorable SuperSwiki2 site from that tiny Island in the Pacific). Fortunately it is probably posted in Japanese so we can limit the potential damage. We must continue to prevent what the enemy considers Good Projects (those that the small vermin are motivated to use/learn and remix) being translated into other languages so that others can learn from it (I wish the enemy would bring back the Tower of Babel again, but that was a one shot lucky one for us).

I created a "proof of concept" version and uploaded it to:
http://squeakland.jp/seaside/SBSuperSwiki/506f5161-9748-49fb-a12a-386379e5f…
and also squeakland.org showcase.
What I did was:
- Wrote a little bit of code so that readable text representation
of phrases in a script can be obtained. (This only handles
phrases with no complex expression as the argument, and Test
tile). Add variables called currentScriptor and result to the
world. "forward by: 10" is rendered as "forward:10" and "turn by
-10" is rendered as "turn:-10".
- Add a couple of Etoys scripts that take the text representation
and see if the specified condition is met. One of such scripts
is "includesInCurrentScriptor:", which checks if the tile given
as its argument is in the currentScriptor. The other one is
"includesInCurrentScriptorTrueClause:", which checks if the tile
specified by the argument is in the Yes part of Test. (You can
think of more variations but this is a start.)
- Attach some scripts to the page objects for "step 1" and "step
2". The "step1Setup" script for example sets up the
currentScriptor variable of the world, and start ticking
"checkstep1" script.
- The checkstep1 script for example checks if "forward:10" is in
the Yes part of a test tile. The result is stored in the
"result" variable of world so you can see it.
- When you flip the page to "step 2", proper test script will be
started.
You probably need a bit more elaborated checks for giving meaningful
feedback to the user... You would want to have a script that checks
the condition part of a test and yes part for example (I'm happy to
write it if you need). But I hope this illustrates the concept.
