question about event theatre

Hi all, I am trying to do some "step by step" tutorial using the *event theatre*. It works fine to create it, and then it plays well for a little time, then goes "bugged". Is there a possible solution for that? toward 5.0.1 - fixes pending

Below are the 5.0.1 issues for which code fixes are pending in "resolved" status on the Etoys Tracker (http://tracker.squeakland.org/). Each of these now needs to be "committed" (or questioned) by one of the usual "committers" (that would be Karl, Ricardo, and Bert, I believe). Once that is done, interested users will be able to load updates (answering Yes when asked whether to "Load the latest packages from the default repository?") into their 5.0 systems in order to benefit from -- and test -- these proposed fixes. We are still hoping for a very-early-summer release for the 5.0.1 bug-fix update. education meeting notes, June 21

Hi everyone, here are the notes from our meeting today: Scott did send an email with a list of pending bug-fixes for the Etoys bug-fix release. It only needs a developer to go over the list and decide if the fixes can go into the release, then build a release for testing. This should be possible before the end of the month, I think. With the upcoming summer there might be some more time for all of us to work a bit on our reference manual. I hope we can finish it, including the new objects that came with Etoys 5. I'll send more information about that in July, we will need writers and proof-readers, everyone is welcome to join the effort. We use a collaborative internet writing tool, which makes the organizing and synchronizing easy. We came to the question of what it would take to improve the media player in Etoys in order to play more video formats. Bert pointed out that there was a GSoC project about that, but it has not been picked this year. It's been suggested by Karl to port OpenQwaq video to Etoys. There have been some more Etoys projects, which should be listed on a page for interested volunteers to find and start working. Steve is working with kids using Squeak and we started discussing the way from Etoys to Squeak. It would be great if that could be made easier. Avigail told us about an australian project (OLPC), which is about long distance learning and evaluation. It sounds very interesting, we'll hear more about it in the future. Hi Kathleen, Many thanks for your help, but this is not the problem. The kid in question knows very well how to insert pictures in etoys projects by dragging or by inserting using the file dialog. The problem is that, at least in my thought, the computer's username is interfering with the insertion of images in some strange way due it has portugues characters, because caption's the message error is referring to UTF8 something... I think it is a problem to developers, so I'll get detailled information about this and come again. problems importing pictures into etoys project

Dear friends, I'm in troubles with a project from one of my young students. The kid needs to import a picture form documents folder, but all the attempts aren't succeed. I think it is because is user name in windows has an "é" (e accute). So every time he tries to place the image in a etoys project he get a error message wich I cant reproduce from memory. I suspect it is related to UTF8 coding. Few months ago, I found that etoys-to-go wasn't functioning in a laptop width Windows 7! The user name computer's was "mariajosé" so, I edited the etoys.ini to reflect the path were .image was using changing th username "mariajosé" to "mariajosÃ©" and corrected the problem. So, I'm asking how can I do to solve permanently the problem width pictures my little student is facing? Thanks Luis

Green Screen using Etoys

FYI, I just uploaded a video demonstrating how you can use Etoys to create a Green Screen effect <http://youtu.be/B39DU7LRgL4>. To do this I purchased a $30US Green Screen, but it can also be done with a green folder (~$0.35US). Kids can use this to create their own stop motion animations, recording a set of movements once, then re-using that set of movements in multiple scenes, with different backgrounds and other "actors". In the next Etoys Minute and hopefully Blog Post I'll do a Squeak code walk through of code and post a link to the project so others can try it for themselves. Stephen

It is sad when school punish mistakes. Mistakes are a opportunity to investigate and see what went wrong. And by doing that you learn. Karl
