Just to butt in, I agree with Lukas as well.  Anything that involves a 
UI component, like a progress bar, will end up
being rewritten on a per app basis anyway.  You can't write a generic 
widget like that which pleases everyone, so
it doesn't really belong in the core, rather it should be in an add on 
library like Scriptaculous.
