Maybe Lukas meant, why is it there just as a selectable option?

It's there because it's an abstract superclass. The Session package defines and
refers to it and requires its protocol. The actual useful subclasses are
provided by other packages. WAMain is the moral equivalent of writing this in a
C program:

int main() {

}
