Your dump indicates a failure very early in startup. I suspect either your image is corrupt or you are out of memory (ie not enough to init the low-memory recovery ;-). Since you mention both 2.4 and 2.4a, I assume you have retrieved the image twice at least. Were you careful to do this in raw binary mode?

But how much is left for Squeak? The 2.4 release requires at least 8M to get off the ground, and I run with 16M routinely. It can be much smaller if you throw things out, but we ship it loaded to the gunwales.
