My apologies for sending so many versions of this.  We figured out 
the choppiness problem (it was a group effort in a GaTech Squeakers 
meeting).  The samplingRate has to be doubled when generating the 
samples.

The attached asSampledSound seems to work perfectly, to the ear and 
to the eye (in viewSamples).
