I agree this makes a certain class of mistakes less likely. But...
Some non-American users expect 1,414 to be a number between 1 and 2,
not a number between one thousand and two thousand.
It's one more rule a user must learn before he or she is able to read
source.
Personally, I find "1e6" easier to read than "1000000", "1 000 000", or
"1,000,000". But this almost certainly varies from reader to
reader. You apparently prefer "1,000,000". :-)
