Shrinking frustration!@#$

Hello folks,

<frustration>
I spent 4 hours shrinking Squeak*. I've hacked majorShrink and shrink only
things I don't use (mainly 3D and Sound). I ended with a smaller image, like
5 megs something into ~2.8megs. Great I thought! I then started to mess
around my shrinked image and see if everything are still workable. MVC,
network, etc.. okai.. humm.. color palettes, Helge's Syntax Highlighter,
Morphic's draw tool, Whisker.. ooops.. won't work properly. Humm, where is
the smartShrinker?

Okai, in fact I am looking for speeding up Squeak on my sluggish PC (P133,
82 Megs RAM, on NT 4.0 Server). I thought shrinking useless things (for me)
would speed up things. Maybe I am right. Maybe you gourous' have alternative
or better solution? Or smartShrinking tekneeks!! Anything else than buy a
new PC. *grin*

I am lot interested to Squeak and I spend a lot of my free time on it. But
say that I don't like when Squeak eat my processor nor hangs while
processing something (Yeah, why not looking forward Peter Smet's
Publish-Subscribe..). I mainly got into Squeak to learn about his VM and
implementation. But Squeak is so rich that I am getting into it. For short,
I just need C Code Generator, Simulator, MVC, Morphic, Networking stuffs and
anything relevant to let me try most of stuff you guys posting. I sure don't
need SqueakAlice, 3D and sound.

(*) Ewh, it takes around 3 hours to edit/recompile linux kernel on a bare
486.. eek ::P
</frustration>

I am open to your suggestions. Meanwhile, I'll wait for SqueakOS to put it
on one of my 486 client. ;:P

Regards,
Ian
