Oh, sorry, my comment seems to have been misleading.
I did not want to propose to automatically reorder the items in the browser's protocol list.

I was referring to the "list of common options"

It's sort of a generalized version of the "recent classes..." menu item in the browser's Categories Pane. Here you have a sorted list of the classes you visited most recently. Analogously, every popup entry box could have a sorted list of the Strings you entered into it most recently (frequently, etc.).

My proposition may be more suitable to other popup queries than to the "add item to protocol list" Tim gave as an example. I think for this case Bert's recent addition is definitely better.
