That's a long-standing problem for me, too. Many Mac programs make the mouse
pointer disappear once one starts to type - it reappears as soon as the
mouse moves a bit. When I did some Windows work a few years ago, I *learned*
to throw the mouse so I could see what I was typing. Continuing that in
Squeak causes much typing going nowhere.

Exactly.  It's driving me to tears, almost.

 I think I will experiment with hiding the cursor so I can *unlearn* the
venerable mouse throw.

I think that if I could quickly move the cursor using a command key (like a
Ctrl-Tab for the different panes in a Windows app), this wouldn't bother me
so much, but the cursor would have to land in an obvious but out of the way
place (not in a input field, for example).
