Actually, that will tile your picture though, and sometimes that's not what you
really want.  I possted some code to the Squeak mailing list recently which can
also be found here: http://w3.one.net/~swessels/squeak.htm

The backdrops change set enhances your options for desktop backdrops using the
FileList.  With this enhancement you can choose to have your selected image file
tiled (default Squeak behavior), stretched, and centered.  There's also an
exhancement to the appearence menus to allow you to create a gradient color
backdrop from either top- to-bottom or left-to-right.  See if that code will
help you.
